Col3Neg gives you access to Sri Lankan films, television shows, live events and much more.
Col3Neg is a popular website that provides access to video and audio content geared toward Sri Lankans. In addition to content created in Sri Lanka, users can discover other content mostly from throughout South Asia. The site does have paid ads on it, but all of the hosted content is free.
This Col3Neg program is an application for Windows that serves as a front end to the Col3Neg services and gives users an alternative to the website. There is a bit of a missed opportunity here in that the app interface does not deviate much from the UI presented on the website, and there are no additional tools and so forth. OS support includes Windows 10 and extends as far back as Windows XP.
As the Col3Neg website is free to use, the Col3Neg program is freeware and does feature some advertising. Some ads can be a bit risqué from time to time but nothing many will find offensive. What is interesting about Col3Neg is that the platform is collated. Videos are selected and added individually by people, and while users can submit videos, those submissions are reviewed before being added.
When launched, the main window of the program looks a lot like the website homepage. The homepage is manicured based on what the site operators want you to see. It can include ads as well as sponsored videos that companies have paid to sit front and center. Click on top videos or recent videos for a more organic look at what is new or trending. You can also access manicured playlists from here.
The media collection available via Col3Neg is massive. There is video, including clips, news segments, movies, television programs and more that have all been pre-recorded. There is also live broadcasts of shows and events, and what is interesting is that these are usually posted ahead of time so that you can bookmark them, receive alerts and even have them turn on automatically. There is audio too, and it includes music, podcasts, live radio from throughout South Asia and much more.
All of the content available on Col3Neg is free to watch, and in cases where content is copy protected, it is a given by the rights holder freely. Since Col3Neg is manicured by actual people, it is uncommon for content that does not belong there to actually make it to the people using the site.
The biggest issue with Col3Neg is the search engine, which is quite basic. The media library is huge, and there’s no way to pare down the search results when looking for something specific. Bookmarks take on increased importance because when you find something, you won’t want to lose track of it.
